Trouble with water?

Hey everyone. Just wanted to voice a concern and maybe get an solution to fix a problem that Ryder just developed. I went out training today with someone to get ready for the Hunt Test season. I've been working him on land a lot and he is doing great. He's holding really well all the way to me and healing with the bumper in his mouth. But today we moved it to the water, and for some reason he wouldn't enter the water in a straight line and needed ALOT of coaxing to go get it. I haven't really had this problem before with him. Its been awhile since i worked on the water retrieve training with him and when we hunt he goes straight in.
When I sent him the first time I was only about 10 yards away from the water (and its a gradual water entry; not a ledge or anything) and he veered off to the left. I said no, moved closer to the water and tried again. Again he went straight left as if to run around the pond to get closer to the bumper. Again, I corrected with no and brought him back... This persisted a couple of times before he went straight into the water. I thought that this was going to be the only time he would do it and thats all he needed was the one time to figure it out..... but it happened EVERY time. I'll admit, he didn't seem to be very focused today (unlike yesterday on land) I'm hoping someone can help if they've had experience with their pup, or with other dogs. Thanks and if you're out for the closer this weekend, Good Luck!!!
Casey and Ryder
Hey, this is Eric. I own Gunner the only Chocolate male. I have never had problems with Gunner and water. He has hit the water at full speed since I got him home. I have problems keeping him out of the river and my pool. I had to spend over $700 on a pool cover because he would be in my pool daily even in the winter just swimming. He hits the water aggressive. I have always trained my dogs getting in the water by getting in the water myself with waders on and calling him out to me and playing a game with the bumper my holding it out from him once they get there and keeping them swimming for awhile. I would slowly work my way back towards land to make him pass me by while he was swimming to get the bumper. Hopefully this helps.
Now for my issue and I am curiious if any of you have this problem. Gunner is on the go 100% of the day there is no rest in this dog. He is bird nuts and even chases them in the air when they fly over. He is an outside dog as my family is allergic to animal hair so can not come inside. The problem I have is he is very destructive. I'm not sure if he gets bored or what, but out of the 10 labs or so I have had in my life he has out chewed and destroyed more things then all of them combined. In the past all of my puppies have chewed or ate things they shouldn't have like shoes, football or something in the garage, but they all grow out of it with some correction. Gunner is now 9 months old or so and he is still being destructive and moving into expensive things and big things like my $200 hedge trimmer. He has chewed up hoses, shop vac, dog pillows (4 of them now), shoes, basically you name it and he can pick it up and carry it he is going to chew on it. I have bought bones, and rubber toys and everything in between. he just has an expensive taste. My 5 year old son left the door barely open to the house and he went in during Christmas and chewed up presents, toys, bedspreads and pillows from the beds and even had the toaster off the counter of the kitchen out in the front yard (funny to laugh at, but i need him to stop) before my wife kills him or me. Love the dog for everything else....great hunter (over 30 roosters this year, 20+ chuckars, and at least a dozen ducks and one goose), great companion, great swimmer and athletic as all get out just wants to play with everything that can go in his mouth. help me
